FG Clarifies Ban On Post-UTME, Admission Procedure

Share on Facebook The Federal Government on Saturday clarified its ban on Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and the general admission procedures, saying it “does not in any way affect the statutory role of the Senate of any University or the academic boards of any tertiary institution conducting its admissions.” The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, stated this in a statement by the Deputy Director (Press and Public Relations) in the Ministry of Education, Mr. Ben Bem-Goong. | He said the clarification became necessary “following conflicting reports in the media over the roles of universities and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board in admission under the new dispensation.” According to him, the role of JAMB is to conduct the UTME, compile the list of candidates whose scores meet the cut-off marks (180 and above) and send same to the Universities. Out Of 180 Million Nigerians 110 Are Poor – Osinbajo

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Saturday said about 110 million Nigerians were living in poverty. He said two-tenth of that figure were in extreme poverty. Boko Haram Terrorists Kill 7 in Borno

  Boko Haram gunmen killed seven people in a raid on a town in northeast Nigerian Borno state near the border with Cameroon on Saturday, residents told AFP on Saturday. Gunmen on motorcycles stormed the town of Rann in Kalabalge district overnight Friday to Saturday and opened fire on homes, fleeing residents said. | “They opened fire on homes as we slept and killed seven people before carting away our food supplies and drugs from the only clinic in the town,” Rann resident Abba Abiso said. He said the Islamists remained in the town for two hours before they left. Residents had fled the town into Cameroon and to the town of Gamboru, 28 kilometres away. EU parliament backs new border force

The EU’s 28 member states agreed to set up the force last month as a key part of the bloc’s strategy for tackling the flow of the migrants along with a deal with Turkey sealed in March. MEPs meeting in Strasbourg, France, approved the new border force by 483 votes to 181 against, with 48 abstentions. “The legislation will enter into force this autumn,” the European Parliament said in a statement. Ambode, who was speaking on a live TV interview, warned that the law stipulates six months jail term or N90,000 fine for offenders. The governor said the renewed enforcement was in line with Section One of the Lagos State Street Trading and Illegal Market Prohibition Law 2003, which restricts street trading and hawking in the metropolis.
